I Cling To You

My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me (Psalm 63:8, NIV)

Looking for encouragement? I was this morning. I opened up Facebook and there it was. 'Your right hand upholds me'. My cousin had posted it, and I 'liked' it ;) Then I scrolled a little further....found a devotional. The devotional title 'Hang On!'. What verse was the written devotional topic taken from? Psalm 63:8 'My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me'. Hmmmmm...do you think the Lord is trying to tell me something?

We have lots going on right now in the Brown family. A source of anxiety, tension, fear...yes, and doubt. It seems like a daily battle of the mind and soul. The Lord is in control, right? I keep telling myself that....but, what if this happens...or this is the result? What then Lord?

Doubt. It's a human response to what seems like an impossible circumstance. It can plague even the most faithful of Christians. I was reminded recently, however, of the old testament story of Zechariah.

The father of John the Baptist, and husband of Elizabeth. He was a priest belonging to the order of Abijah. While he was offering incense in the Temple, the angel Gabriel appeared to him, and told him that his wife Elizabeth who had been barren for many years would give birth to a son, and the son's name would be John. Zechariah, who was an old man, did not believe the angel, and because of his disbelief, was struck dumb unable to speak, until the prophecy was fulfilled.

Imagine? God silenced Zechariah because he was speaking unbelief! How often do we do that? Not just audibly, but in our hearts. We ask the Lord for things...but are we believing that He will fulfill His promises?

Is He really Our Healer? Yes! Psalm 103:1-3, 1 Peter 2:24, Matthew 8:16-17 all tell us that HE IS!

Will He bring us peace in the midst of a storm? YES! Phillipians 4:6-7 tells us that when we come to Him and make our petitions known, He will bring us peace!

Can we trust Him? YES! Matthew 17:20 tells us that even if we have faith as small as a mustard seed, NOTHING is impossible with Him!

My favorite scripture to quote out loud when I am fearful.... 2 Timothy 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

When doubt, fear, anxiety creep in & when our circumstances are telling us that there is no hope; instead of speaking fear and doubt, let's start speaking God's TRUTH! Start quoting out loud His promises! He IS Faithful. He IS our Healer! He DOES comfort! He IS in control!! I don't want to be silent in my fear and doubt....instead, I want to PROCLAIM all that He IS and all that HE HAS ALREADY DONE! It builds our faith....makes us stronger in Him. He rejoices!

Remember as you face your day today, no matter your circumstances, He is holding you in the palm of His hand. I can't imagine a safer, stronger, more peaceful place to be.

That I May KNOW Him...

Philippians 3:7-11
New International Version (NIV)
"7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in[a] Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. 10 I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead."

I am currently going through a book study on Paul. It's titled "Paul ... 90 Days on His Journey of Faith" by Beth Moore. It's been great so far, and I'm only going into day 7! What an incredible man of God Paul was!

The passage of scripture above, was the focus in today's reading. As I reflected on it, many things were brought to mind. I thought about how some religions have ritual after ritual that they have to perform or so many prayers to recite in order to get forgiven or go to heaven. I was reminded of how works are such a center point in so many religions. People think that if they do this, or do that, or recite this or that, that they are 'ok' with 'the man upstairs'. It's no wonder so many are longing....are lost....are wondering...is there more?

YES!!!!

Listen to Paul's words! 'I want to KNOW Christ'. Knowing the Lord is soooo much deeper than mere rituals done once a week. Knowing God is a daily communication with Him! It's walking WITH Him. It's interacting with Him through the reading of His Word, through fellowship with Him, Praising His Name through songs, kneeling before Him in Prayer. It's sooo much sweeter when you KNOW Christ!

I think even we as Christians (speaking right to the woman in the mirror on this one!) can be saved for years and then get so caught up in the daily living of life and doing for the church, that we miss out on communion with the Lord. We get busy doing things, and forget the ONE that we are supposed to be serving and doing it for. I've been there. I know what it is like to be so busy serving and not really working on building our relationship with the Lord. We are missing out on the sweet quiet times with Him.

We, as Christians, need to be careful. Careful of getting too busy in the hussle and bussle (especially this time of the year) of doing all of the rituals and daily tasks for the Lord and the church, that we stop conversing with the One who this season is all about. It's in those busy times, that we can allow the evil one to get a strong hold in our lives. No daily communication with God = no Power to Overcome the fiery darts. We need to make sure to put on the Armor of God each and every day. If we don't...we can allow fear to penetrate, doubts to surface, and faith to be shaken.

I don't know about you, but I don't want just daily, empty, ritualistic religion! I WANT TO KNOW CHRIST! I want the righteousness that comes from my Lord, not from a religion or people or my self. I want to be made complete in HIM. I know that the only way that I can do this is to deny myself daily, rely on HIS strength, and through that I will continue to get stronger in my faith!

Without love for God and His Word, we're just trying to be good. Nothing will wear us out faster!! We will be going going going...and not filling up on HIM! Oh Lord, forgive us when we act like modern-day Pharisees...Convict us at the very moment of our departure from the law of love You have written on our hearts. Give us hearts of devotion, not heads full of religion! *

THANKFUL THURSDAY: Prayer!

Today is 'Thankful Thursday'! I love this day! I have so many things to be thankful for, so it took me a while today to narrow it down to ONE! :)

Today I am thankful for...

PRAYER!!

There are so many reasons that we go to the Lord in prayer. We ask for things that we feel we need, things that we want, for good health, for love & acceptance, for peace in the midst of a storm. So many things.

This week I have been struggling a bit with anxiety again. I think I know why, but there were times that I let worry in. This morning, before I even got out of bed though, I started to pray. I started to claim "You, oh Lord, have not given me the spirit of fear! You have given me comfort & peace. I need it now, Lord!" I asked Him to calm me & to give me the peace that I KNOW HE CAN GIVE! Guess what? I haven't had any issues at all the entire day!! No problems with a topsy turvey tummy. No fluttering in my chest. No feelings of doom. I haven't been anxious at all!

He told us in His Word to come to Him & He will give us rest! So, why don't we? Why do we wait so long?

I think sometimes we get wrapped up in our daily lives that we just don't stop to pray. I think that there are also times that we may think 'oh, the Lord doesn't need to hear my complaining or my worries...He has more to deal with'.

That's not so. If He is so powerful & mighty that He knows how many hairs are on our head and cares for the little sparrows...He can handle our EVERY NEED!

That job that you are wanting? Go to Him with it!

Feeling lonely or discouraged? He would LOVE to hear from you & fill you with His comfort!

Are you worried or anxious or fearful? He says to cast "ALL" your cares on Him, for HE CARES for you!!

DON'T WAIT! DON'T HESITATE! Go to Him NOW with your burdens, wants, and needs. He Loves to communicate with His children. He is waiting.....CALL ON HIM!

MINDFUL MONDAY: I Love....

Love. It's a powerful word. 'I love you' is a phrase that most people love to hear. I know it sure brought a smile (and a happy tear) to my face when my 2 year old, Nickolas, said it for the first time today! They are precious words.

Sometimes we don't say them enough. We assume others know how we feel. Actions show love, sure, but hearing those words....it's just a joyful feeling. It got me thinking today. Does Jesus know how we feel? Do we tell Him enough? Does He know you love Him?

Now, I know, I know what you are thinking. Jesus is all-knowing. He already knows my heart. But, wouldn't He smile & be filled with joy if we TOLD Him. If we said it out loud? "Jesus, I love you!!" I can see the smile already forming on His magnificent face!

I am reminded of a passage of scripture. In John 21, the disciples were out fishing & afterward went back to shore to eat & fellowship with Jesus. After they were done eating, Jesus said to Peter 'Do you love me?'. Peter's reply was 'Yes, Lord. You know that I do'. Jesus said to him 'Feed my Lambs'. He then asked Peter a 2nd time 'Peter, do you love me?'. Peter replied 'Yes, Lord, you know that I love you'. Jesus said 'take care of my sheep'. Then a 3rd time Jesus asked him 'Do you love me?' & Peter replied 'Lord, you know all things. You know that I love You.'. Jesus told Him "Feed my Sheep".

Jesus wanted Peter to show evidence of His love for Him. We can show our love for the Lord in so many ways! What did Jesus mean when he told Peter to 'feed his sheep' or 'take care of his sheep'? He wanted Peter to go out and make a difference! Go and tell people about Jesus! Go and help the lonely, widowed, and broken-hearted! Those are the same things that we can do today. We can show the Lord how much we love Him by serving Him! By using our talents for His Glory! By reaching out to the single mom who is struggling to feed her children. By taking in an orphan. By helping out our elderly neighbor with their lawn. There are so many ways to SHOW the Lord that we love Him.

But...

Why not just TELL HIM! Tell the Lord how much you love Him! Cry out to Him and tell Him how thankful you are for what He has done in your life. The joy that I felt today when my little 2 yr old uttered those words, is probably nothing compared to how the Lord must feel when one of his creation...one of his children, says "I LOVE YOU FATHER" "I LOVE YOU LORD".

So, tell Him today. Our actions are wonderful & great...but I bet He'd LOVE to hear the words! :)

SANCTIFIED SUNDAY: Come Just As You Are

COME JUST AS YOU ARE

That's pretty much the theme of our church. Come just as you are. Do you have dress clothes? Ok...go ahead and wear them. Is your 'best' a pair of cut offs? Feel welcome in that as well! Do you have burdens? Bring them with you, but you will want to leave them at the altar as the presence of the Lord relieves the load.

Brian and I came to Calvary Missionary Church in Pontiac almost 2 yrs ago after many years of being away from church in general. We were looking for a place that would accept us for who we are, where we would be comfortable, feel loved, hear good preaching, and be able to use our gifts. We were comfortable right away!

There was instant love and acceptance. We felt right at home from the first Sunday that we were there! This was a huge jump, for me especially! I had grown up Baptist & it was far different from the Pentacostal practices at Calvary. But, you know what? It has felt right since the day we stepped through the door. The Lord is working among His people and it is so evident! You can sense the Spirit so mightily when the Word is being preached & lately, the alter calls & prayer time have been just plain incredible!!!

Is our church huge? Nope. But, it is large in love.

Do we have big jumbo trons displaying the praise team songs or preacher? Nada. But, the Spirit moving is larger than any of that.

There are a lot of changes being made in our church. Lots of things coming down the pike! Brian and I are so excited to see what is going to happen! How God is going to move! How we can get involved in it all!! I invite you to come by! You will be Blessed! Dad Brown or Pastor Dan will be at the door to greet you with a hand shake! Rhonda or Deb will hand you a bulletin & a smile :) When you walk into the sanctuary, you won't get past Iris without a nice big warm hug!! (they're the BEST!)

Then stand up and join me and the Praise Team as we start thanking the Lord in song for what He is doing! You'll hear us thanking Him for Freeing us, for lifting our chains with His Amazing Grace, for being our Friend! Then sit back, and enjoy a GREAT WORD from the Lord through Pastor Deb. She is a mighty warrior for God and a wonderful deliver of His message! You will come away BLESSED! Oh, and afterward, join us all for lunch....you can usually find us up the street at Nikko's! :)

Just Come! Come just as you are....

SATURDAY SMILE: 2011 Youth Rally

Today's :) is brought to you by....

The 2011 Youth Rally!

Several years ago, my Father in Law started to feel a calling to the youth of today. So, he started having a Youth Rally every year at our church. It is funded soley by himself and others who volunteer their money and time! Each year with a different theme...each Word from the Lord reaching our youth for Christ! Last year, our own son Dakota asked Jesus into his heart at the Youth Rally! I've personally been able to see the fruit of the labor that goes into these rallies! God is Good!

This year, the theme was "Make the Right Choice"

Joshua 24:15. "But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”

There were a couple of great bands that played: Force of One & Thresh-Hold. Also a really awesome drumline called "Lions of Judah". It was a great time of Praise and Worship & the kids really enjoyed it!! Its great when you have something like this that can get the youth fired up for the Lord!!

After the bands, my father in law R.J. Brown got up to preach. He was fired up, as usual! :) At one point, Nickolas even went up there...I think he wanted to preach a bit with Papa! Especially when Papa kicked his leg out with excitement in the Spirit & then Nickolas mimicked him! Gave us all a good smile :) Later on Dad B. gave an alter call & a lot of the kids went forward, including Brian, Dakota, Nickolas and I. Dad B. went and laid his hands on each person's forehead up at the alter & prayed and said "Touch"....After Papa passed us, Nickolas started doing it to me, Brian and Dakota and saying "Touch". Too cute...maybe he'll be a preacher too someday?! :)

It was a great day of praise, good word, and wonderful fellowship with family & friends! Most importantly, lots of kids heard about making the right choice & therefore lives were changed & renewed in Christ!

As a family, we confirmed the choice that we had already made...as for the Brown Household...WE WILL SERVE THE LORD!!

Below is a great video & song that was played at the rally....

If you would like to see pics from the Rally, they are on my FaceBook page. The Blogger upload tool doesn't seem to be working :(

THANKFUL THURSDAY: He is Faithful!!

Psalm 36:5
Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.
Today I am thankful for the Lord's Faithfulness! No matter what our struggle, how far we may get from Him, how busy we get, it doesn't matter...He never leaves us! He is a faithful & loving Father. His love is unconditional!
I have been away from the blog for a while. Not sure if anyone noticed, but I have. I just didn't feel like writing. Didn't feel like doing much of anything actually. Back in the beginning of May, I had what most would describe as a breakdown. There was a week or so that I didn't even want to get out of bed. I would get up, get Dakota to school, feed Nicky, and then pretty much sit on the couch until he napped...then I would go to bed too. I was not functioning. Depression had set in. I had some things going on in my life that I just wasn't dealing with & didn't want to deal with. It had upset me so much that I just gave in. The Dr. prescribed depression & anxiety meds. That only made me sicker.
Then I remembered that I had access to the best Physician there is! My Heavenly Father! He heals! He restores! HE IS FAITHFUL! Instead of pills, I went to my knees. I asked .... He DELIVERED! I needed a jolt of strength, a tablespoon of healing for my wounds, and instead of taking earthly medication, I went to the author of my Faith! He gave me the strength to stand up in the face of adversity. To keep moving forward through the pain of rejection. He restored my soul! He is such a loving God and a FAITHFUL FRIEND!
There are days where I still have down moments, but you know what? When I find myself starting to fall into that pit, I grab on to His hand. I reach for Him and hang on tight! I ask for another 'refill' of his strength! I keep pushing forward! Someone once told me that when we sing God's praises, the enemy is silent! So, that's what I do! When the enemy starts reminding me of the rejection that I feel, or the hurt and pain of lost relationships...I sing about my Lord! I start praising Him!
I encourage you to do the same! Thank the Lord for being so faithful! Thank Him by praising Him...sing out...cry out, if you have to! He will prove Faithful each & every time! He will pull you out of that pit!
Until next time....keep pushing forward!

Thankful Thursday:

Difficulties are opportunities to better things; they are stepping stones to greater experience. Perhaps someday you will be thankful for some temporary failure in a particular direction. When one door closes, another always opens.
-- Author Unknown

It's 'Thankful Thursday'! Would you like to know what I am thankful for today? Here it goes...

INFERTILITY!

I bet you weren't expecting me to ever say that! I probably shocked some of you. But, it's true! I am so thankful! Why am I so thankful for such a horrible and devastating lot in life? My children. That's it. If it weren't for infertility, I most likely would not have my 2 beautiful boys.

Sometimes we are dealt with circumstances in our life and question God. Why me? Why do I have to go through this? What am I supposed to be learning from this, Lord? Why does this other person get to have what I dream of & I don't? Why does she get to have a child & she doesn't even take care of it, while we struggle & would give anything to be able to conceive. Yep...I went through all of those emotions, and more, back then. But, the Lord had a plan.

We can't always see His plan or understand His ways...but we need to Trust His Heart.

Brian and I were talking last night about how just 4 years ago it was just the 2 of us. It had been just the 2 of us for 15 yrs. We had many nights of sadness and tears over wanting to be parents. Now, we look back & can hardly remember the pain & suffering. We can hardly remember how life was without our boys!

We went through so much hurt & pain back then. It was hard. It was emotional. But, I wouldn't trade it now. We have 2 beautiful sons that may not have came from Brian and I biologically...but they were born in our hearts. They are treasures. God chose them special for us. He loved us so much that He picked out 2 special children, just for us, to parent.

How can I NOT be Thankful??!!

Word & Worship Wednesday: From Stigma to 'Son'

Mephibosheth. Have you heard of him? I hadn't either, until today. He was a son of Jonathan's...Saul's son in the Bible. There are only a couple of verses that tell us about him. Not much information either. Basically that he was Jonathan's son, an heir to the throne. He was 5 yrs old when both Saul & Jonathan were killed in battle. Oh, and he was dropped by his caregiver & became crippled.

In most references to him in the bible he is referred to as a cripple. Most, when mentioning him, would talk about his handicap. You know, like 'where is Mephibosheth, the cripple'. He had a stigma attached to his name. That is, until David. David was going to take the throne & because of his love for Jonathan, wanted to take care of his family. When asking about him, he didn't use the stigma...he saw past it. He said 'Where is this son?'. You wonder how long it had been since this little boy was referred to as a son....without the stigma attached.

Many of us know what it's like to carry a stigma. Each time your name is mentioned, your calamity follows.

"Have you heard from John lately? You know, the guy who got divorced?"

"We got a letter today from Jerry. Remember him, the alcoholic?"

"Sharon is in town. What a shame that she has to raise those kids alone."

"I saw Melissa today. I don't know why she can't keep a job."

Unfortunately those stigmas seem to follow you wherever you go. It makes you wonder if there is anyone who sees you for who you are and not what you did. Someone who looks past your mistakes & failures in life & sees your heart.

There is One who does. Your King! JESUS! When God sees you, He sees His child. He sees a precious soul that He died for. When He speaks of you, He doesn't mention your plight, pain, or problem; He lets you share His glory. He says 'That's one of my children'.

Not only did David see past Mephibosheth's stigma. He found & rescued him! He have him back all of the land, crops & servants & insisted that he eat at the king's table!

Do you see OUR story in his?

We are God's children. King Jesus. That makes us royalty! He invites us, crippled with our sin, to sit at his table....permanently. Accept His invitation. If you can't walk because your load is just to heavy....limp on over. Take your place next to the other sinners-made-saints & we will all share in God's glory.

Tuesday's Top Ten: 10 Reasons for Joy

It was just 2 weeks ago that I was feeling quite down. So down, in fact, that I was sleeping a lot and not eating much. I picked myself up and to the Dr. I went. Anxiety & Panic Attacks was the diagnoses. Really? I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I have so much to be thankful for! How can a Christian who has HOPE have so much anxiety?

Circumstances. That's it. It happens to the best of us. You go through a trial, get hurt, and sometimes need some help getting out of the pit. Well, today, thanks to the Lord, my wonderful husband, and a few close family members and friends, I am doing wonderful!! The Lord reached down, I looked up...and GRABBED ON! He pulled me out of the pit. He is beginning a new work in me....and I am joyful!

Here are some reasons for my Joy today.... :)

1. Jesus is my ROCK & my STRENGTH! When I am weak, HE is strong!! Psalm 31:24 "Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD."

2. I have a husband that steps up to the plate when I can't. He takes care of our boys, loves on me, and encourages me. The best friend I could ever have...and I married him!

3. I have 2 absolutely beautiful boys that I never thought that I would have! The Lord has truly blessed us beyond our hopes & dreams with Dakota & Nickolas!!

4. I married into a wonderful family! I am so very thankful that I have wonderful in-laws! There are so many people that can't say that...I know how very lucky I am! :) I love them dearly & am so thankful for all that they do for Brian and I and the boys!

5. I found the Lord at a young age! I was fortunate to have parents that became Christians when I was very young, so I was in church & learning about God early on in life. Because of that, I came to accept the Lord at a young age & I believe this kept me from a world of hurt & sin that could have enveloped me without the Firm Foundation that I had.

6. I finally have a church that I can call HOME! This is such a blessing to me! We went through so much heartache after leaving the church where we met & got married. We spent many years trying and trying to find someplace that 'fit' us, where we could grow & use our gifts. We now have a home....and feel so BLESSED to be there! We love our church family and they make us feel loved and appreciated too! :)

7. Music! There have been so many times when I have been down & just started singing praises to the Lord & it turns my mood around! I love the way that works! I love to sing for the Lord and am so thankful for that gift!

8. Spring & Summer! It's funny, because as I type this, it is only 50 degrees outside and gloomy....but I know that warmth and Sunshine is just around the corner! Spring & Summer in Michigan is always beautiful!!

9. The Camper! I am fortunate enough that my in-laws have a place only about an hour and half drive from here where we can go anytime and relax! We have created so many memories up there since we got married and it is soooo fun to now experience all of it with our boys! I plan on spending lots of time up there this Summer with the boys & my mother in law & sister in law! :)

10. Good Health! To be able to say that everyone in my family is pretty healthy....well, that alone is pure JOY!

Mindful Monday's: Got Forgiveness?

Matthew 6:9-15 "This, then, is how you should pray: " 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ' For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."

It's funny, I have read that prayer so many times throughout my life as a Christian. Not one time, do I recall reading vs 14 or 15! How convenient. I recall the parts where I'm asking God to forgive me of this or that and deliver me from temptation and the evil one....but the part about ME doing the forgiving, completely managed to skim right over that one!

Mark 11:25 "And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. "

Did you catch that? Forgive, so that the Father may forgive you! Forgive, or your Father in Heaven will not forgive your sins. That's POWERFUL! Did you hear it??

I heard it, LOUD AND CLEAR...this past Sunday at church. We had a special speaker on Sunday morning. Her Word from the Lord was shooting right at me....like lightening cutting through a tree. OUCH! What did you just say, Lord? I'M the one who needs to forgive? It's hindering MY growth? It could be blocking MY prayers?

Have you ever been ambushed by someone's words, or by their actions toward you? So harshly, it feels as if they cut you with a knife verbally? Well, I have. A couple of times in the past year. It hurts. It's not fun. The worst part is when you really feel that you are owed an apology....and you wait & wait & wait....and it never comes. People move on as if it never happened. All the while, you are still hurting.

Guess what? You can claim VICTORY over that pain. When you are expecting an apology and you want the relationship to be right again. When you want the pain to go away & the hurt to be erased. You can have joy again! Sometimes we just need to forgive...for OURSELVES!!! We need to forgive the person that we feel has wronged us so that WE can move on. I realized this week that I will most likely never get what I think I deserve from the person who I feel wronged me. But, you know what? It's ok! Why? Because I can get EVERYTHING I need and MORE from the ONE Who created me! I can ask the Lord to help me forgive that person and He will! He will not only help me to do that, but He will give me VICTORY over the hurt & pain!

Corrie Ten Boom, a Christian woman who survived a Nazi concentration camp during the Holocaust, said, "Forgiveness is to set a prisoner free, and to realize the prisoner was you."

When you have been hurt by someone's words or actions....try forgiveness! After all, the Lord has forgiven us ... shouldn't we do the same for others? Our joy is being held captive when we choose not to forgive. Release the joy....the key is forgiveness.

I choose to forgive....what about you?

MINDFUL MONDAY: Should Christians Cheer the Death of bin Laden?

Over the last 15 hours or so, I have read several comments and postings about the death of the world's #1 hunted murderer...Osama bin Laden. The mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks on U.S. soil. The majority of the posts have been something along the lines of 'Wooohoooo Osama is dead' or 'Praise God & Bless our troops...Justice has been served!' or even 'Thank you Jesus!'. I, myself, even must admit that I was pretty happy and joyous at hearing the news. I cried this morning as I watched some of the people at Ground Zero weeping tears of joy for their lost loved ones who now have been avenged.

As a Christian, however, I felt a tinge of guilt at rejoicing too much in his death. Why, you might ask? Because Osama never met Jesus. Oh, he MET His Creator immediately after death... & was judged. But, he didn't MEET Jesus in a personal way. He was a lost soul. For that...I feel a bit saddened. Instead of the virgins waiting for him, he is experiencing the clenching and gnashing of teeth....pain for eternity. Some say, he deserves it. Read the post below that a friend of mine found. Then decide what you think. Personally, I believe that he was a horrible horrible man. He is responsible for thousands of lives lost. The Lord has the final judgement....and now Osama is serving his time....for all ETERNITY.

Should Christians Cheer the Death of bin Laden?

The web has once again been sent buzzing, this time by the announcement that U.S. Forces have killed Osama bin Laden, who masterminded the 9/11 attacks among others. Undoubtedly, bin Laden was responsible for the deaths of many thousands of people and the suffering of untold thousands more. But should Christians really revel in the death of anyone, even someone as wicked as bin Laden? Doesn't the Bible tell us to pray for those who persecute us? Did not Paul's command in 1 Timothy 2 to pray for those in power even include Nero, who persecuted the church mercilessly?

As you can see, there is much confusion on just how Christians should respond to such news. If we are to follow the command of Christ, we should love our enemies. However, we also need to reflect God's desire for justice in the world.

I think that in order to gain a better perspective on this issue we may need to look at the Bible a little more carefully than merely pulling our favorite proof text out for either side of the issue. Fortunately, there are many passages where these kinds of issues have already been explored by commentators. One such passage is Psalm 58:

1Do you indeed speak righteousness, O gods?
Do you judge uprightly, O sons of men?
2No, in heart you work unrighteousness;
On earth you weigh out the violence of your hands.
3The wicked are estranged from the womb;
These who speak lies go astray from birth.
4They have venom like the venom of a serpent;
Like a deaf cobra that stops up its ear,
5So that it does not hear the voice of charmers,
Or a skillful caster of spells.
6O God, shatter their teeth in their mouth;
Break out the fangs of the young lions, O LORD.
7Let them flow away like water that runs off;
When he aims his arrows, let them be as headless shafts.
8Let them be as a snail which melts away as it goes along,
Like the miscarriages of a woman which never see the sun.
9Before your pots can feel the fire of thorns
He will sweep them away with a whirlwind, the green and the burning alike.
10The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance;
He will wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.
11And men will say, "Surely there is a reward for the righteous;
Surely there is a God who judges on earth!"
Psalms such as Psalm 58 are known by theologians as imprecatory psalms, which basically means the Psalmist is calling a curse from God down onto his enemies. These psalms have been the subject of many debates as to their meaning since they seemingly contradict the commands to love our enemies noted above. But we know that all Scripture is inspired by God (II Tim 3:16) and that this Psalm's author, David, was said to be empowered by the Holy Spirit when writing his psalms (Acts 2:33-35). So much about bin Laden's reign of terror and his subsequent death is reflected in Psalm 58, I think we can gain a better understanding of how we should react by studying it more closely.

Imprecatory psalms have several elements that are unique to them:

1. None of these psalms should be read with the notion that the Psalmist is calling for revenge or individual retribution.
In all the imprecatory psalms, the psalmist is motivated by seeing God's justice served. David models this himself in other psalms that call for the destruction of his enemies. In Psalm 31 David writes "In your righteousness deliver me!" and in Psalm 109 he writes , "They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, And fought against me without cause. In return for my love they act as my accusers; But I am in prayer." He also modeled this both when Saul pursued him unjustly and when Absalom usurped his throne. Asking God that justice be done is not the same thing as carrying out an individual vendetta. Such distinctions are important.

2. God Hates Sin
Another thing the imprecatory psalms do is underline the notion that God hates sin. Sin is real, and it's truly offensive to our Father in heaven. Osama bin Laden was a murderer who took glee in snuffing out those made in the image of God. Sometimes as Christians we are so concerned with not offending anyone that we overlook this fact. However, Jesus used strong and condemning language to underscore sin's heinous nature. He took the Pharisees to task several times, going so far as to call them children of the devil and only seeking to do the devil's will (John 8:44). He said to the citizens of Capernaum that they would go straight to hell, since Sodom would have believed had they seen the miracles he performed (Matt 11:23). He took a whip and drove out the moneychangers from the temple (John 2:15). Sin provokes a pretty strong reaction from our Lord and it should also provoke one in us, too.

Note that sometimes the language in the psalms is hyperbole – meaning it uses overblown images to make a point. I don't think we should take the passage "shatter their teeth in their moths" literally any more than when David writes in Psalm 6 "Every night I make my bed swim, I dissolve my couch with my tears." Jewish poetic style uses hyperbole in this way, and we should understand it as such. It does, though, make a strong point about God's view of sin.

3. It is God's glory to provide justice.
Note the end of Psalm 58 where David writes, "The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; He will wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. And men will say, ‘Surely there is a reward for the righteous; Surely there is a God who judges on earth!'" God's divine justice is served when evil doers are given their just due. The righteous can point to such actions and know that God will ultimately be a righteous judge and provide justice for His righteous ones. Unbelievers are given a witness of God's righteousness. And because Romans 13 claims that governing authorities can serve as God's servants, meting out His justice, we can be thankful that the action was done in an orderly way--not by wiping out entire sections of a foreign country, but through a surgical strike that respected those other people made in the image of God in Abbottabad. Reuters even reports that once dead, the U.S. handled his body in accord with Islamic customs.

So, how should we respond to the death of bin Laden? We should first lament the sin we see in the world, including our own. We should rejoice that God's justice was in fact carried out in this instance. We should grieve that the gospel hasn't penetrated the hearts of people like bin Laden and those who sincerely followed him. And we should, like David, pray for them. Pray that they would know the love of Christ. Pray that God's justice will ultimately be seen. And pray that no more would die in response to a lie. That would be truly loving one's enemies.

SANCTIFIED SUNDAY

Happy Sunday everyone! Normally I would tell you something wonderful that I've heard or learned at church today. However, I did not make it there this morning after fighting some stomach issues the past 2 days. I do have something GREAT & MARVELOUS to share with you all though!! :)

http://www.2wordstory.com/

That's It! :) What's yours?? Mine is ... Hope? Hope!! Before Christ, I had no hope. Nothing to push me through trials & bad circumstances of life. With Jesus, I KNOW I have HIM beside me, pushing me forward & giving me the HOPE and strength to move on. I can give you so many times in my life where I can see that His hand has been there guiding me...leading my path to the Hope of security & Trust in HIM! I have 2 beautiful boys to prove it!! :) Boys that I never thought that I would have! I will be celebrating Mothers Day next week....a day that used to make me cry! HOPE? YOU BET!!!! I HAVE IT!! :)

I encourage you that do not know anything about the E.A.C.H. movement here in Michigan, to go to the website & check it out. It is a wonderful outreach that we are doing here. Lots of churches coming together to spread the Word so that Everyone has A Chance to Here about the life saving LOVE of the Lord!

In order to spread the Word, we are, as churches united, going out into our communities sharing the Word & doing good deeds. We have shirts, mugs, and different things that share our 2 Word Stories for people to see. Our children have been taught about witnessing & also have rubber bracelets & dog tag necklaces with Friend? Friend. written on them. The dog tags also have a heart, the number 4, and "U" on them. All of these are tools to start conversations with people, to witness about the Lord & how He has changed our lives!

I am pleased and soooo very proud to share a story.....

Brian & our 8 yr old son, Dakota, were at the grocery store today, and a guy who works there that we have befriended throughout the years asked Dakota about his E.A.C.H. 2 word story dog tags that were hanging around his neck! They say 'Friend? Friend!' and the other dog tag has a heart, the number 4 & the letter U on it. Dakota went on to explain that before Jesus he didn't know that he had a friend & now that he asked Jesus into his heart, Jesus is his BEST Friend! He also explained that the other tag meant that Jesus loves us so much that he died on the cross for you! The guy then asked Dakota for one of the dog tags! Dakota gave him the 'Friend? Friend!' one. Now when Ed looks at them, he will not only think of Dakota, but the meaning behind the dog tag...JESUS!! We were then able to explain to Dakota how he planted a seed in Ed's life. We told him that he should now start praying for Ed, that one day he will ask Jesus into his heart too! It was such a proud moment for us as parents. To see Dakota so excited about sharing the Lord with a 'friend'...just an AWESOME day! :) Praying for Ed & praying that the Lord will continue to water that seed, that one day he will accept His Creator.

What is your 2Word Story? Share it! You will be Blessed & make a difference in someone's life!!

If you don't have a 2Word story yet, I'd be happy to share Jesus with you! You can also go to the 2Word Story link above & click on the Questions section. There you will find answers to a lot of the questions that you may have. You can know True HOPE, True Faith, True Joy in your life! Trust Him! He is waiting...

Word & Worship Wednesday

God has not promised the Believer smooth sailing through life. He has never said that we wouldn't go through trials. What He DID say is that He would get us THROUGH it. We will still experience them, but He is with us the whole way. Guiding us. Protecting us. Teaching us! One of the many scriptures that has stuck with me throughout the years, is Ephesians 6:10-18....putting on the Armor of God.

As you face the day to day challenges of life......DON'T FORGET YOUR ARMOR!!

The Armor of God

"Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

"Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints...." Ephesians 6:10-18

Here is a little explanation that I found on the Armor of God...

Belt of TRUTH: God - the Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit
Scripture: "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6) Deut. 4:39; Psalm 23:1; 18:1-3

Breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS: The holy and perfect righteousness of Jesus in those who are "born again" and filled with His Spirit
Scripture: "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled." (Matt. 5:6) Psalm 100:3; Rom. 3:23-24, 6:23; Gal. 2:20-21; Phil. 3:8-10.

Sandals of PEACE: Inner peace and readiness
Scripture: "For He Himself is our peace..." (Eph. 2:14-15)Rom. 5:1; Eph. 2:14; John 14:27, 16:33, 20:21

Shield of FAITH: Living by faith
Scripture: "I am crucified with Christ:...and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God...." (Gal. 2:20) Rom. 4:18-21; Heb. 11:1; 1 Pet. 1:6-7

Helmet of SALVATION: Salvation through Christ
Scripture: Nor is there salvation in any other..."(Acts 4:12) Each day: Ps. 16, 23; Heb. 1:3-6For eternity: 2 Cor. 4:16-18; 1 Thess. 4:17; 1 John 3:1-3

The victorious Sword of the spirit: GOD'S WORD: God's Word countering spiritual deception and accusations
Scripture: "...the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory...." (John 1:14) Heb. 4:12; Matt. 4:2-11; 1 Pet. 3:15; Ps. 119:110-112

To put on the "full armor"--and enjoy a daily and eternal love-relationship with Jesus Christ, thank Him for what He has shown you in His Word. Know the Scriptures behind your prayer so that your words and faith are grounded in the authority of the Bible. (Some of those verses are listed above.) Then pray through each piece. You can use the following prayer as an outline:

The belt of truth: Thank you, my Lord, for showing me the TRUTH about Yourself, Your plans and Your ways. Thank You for reminding me that You are the only God, the Creator of heaven and earth, the King of the universe, my Father who loves me, and my Shepherd who leads me. You are my wisdom, my counselor, my hope, and my strength. You are everything I need each day!

The breastplate of righteousness: Thank You for showing me the truth about myself -- that on my own I could never be good enough to live in your presence. Thank you for taking my sins to the cross and offering me your perfect, RIGHTEOUS life. Lord, show me any sin that I need to confess right now, so that nothing will hinder me from being filled to overflowing with your Spirit. [Take time for confession] Thank you for forgiving me and for filling me with your RIGHTEOUS life.

The sandals of peace: Thank you for the peace you give me when I trust and follow you. Show me how to help others find that PEACE.

The shield of faith: Thank you for helping me have FAITH in you. I choose to count on everything you have shown me about yourself -- and everything you have promised me in your Word.

The helmet of salvation: Thank you for promising me SALVATION both for today's battles and for all eternity.

The sword of the spirit, the Word of God: Thank you for the scriptures you have given me to memorize. Please show me which you want me to use to cut through deceptions and gain your victory in any battle I may face today.

TUESDAY'S TOP TEN

TUESDAY'S TOP TEN: I will share a different list of my top tens each week!

Top Ten Reasons to Have HOPE!!

10. You are NOT Alone!
In the dark. During the times in your life that you feel no one is there. You're lonely. But, you are not alone. He is always with us. He never leaves. Deuteronomy 31:6 "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Friends may fail you. Family may disappoint you. But Jesus is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. Call out His name....He hears you! John 15:13 "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

9. God is in Control!
When you are weary. When you have no hope or peace. When things seem so very out of control....give it over to Him. He is still on the Throne. He is still capable. He is IN CONTROL! Philippians 4:19 "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." Isaiah 41:10 "So do not fear, for I am with you;do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you;I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

8. You Can Trust God's Heart!
When trials arise, and circumstances in life are less than favorable, I don’t doubt how tempting it is to question God’s heart of love. We just want to know that someone truly cares, is looking out for our best interest, and has good in store for us. We want to know the reasons behind His allowances, as if in the “knowing,” We will somehow feel more in control and at ease about our future. Yet, as Charles Spurgeon says, “When we cannot trace God’s hand, we must trust His heart.” His heart is good. He wants the very best for us. He knows the perfect timing. We need only trust Him! Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

7. The Lord is your Protector!
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints...." Ephesians 6:10-18 God's armor brings victory because it is far more than a protective covering. It is the very life of Jesus Christ Himself. "Put on the armor," wrote Paul in his letter to the Romans, "...clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ." (Romans 13:12-14) When you do, He becomes your hiding place and your shelter in the storm -- just as He was to David. Hidden in Him, you can count on His victory, for He not only covers you as a shield, He also fills you with His life.

6. God is Faithful!
God is faithful to believers. He blesses us, keeps us from evil, helps us grow, and become prosperous. Trust in Him and remember His faithfulness at all times. He's there and He's your greatest ally. 1 Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."

5. God Is Powerful!
When we face adversities & trials in life that we think are overwhelming, we only need to bring it to Him. As it says in His Word, NOTHING is too difficult for Him! Remember WHO you are talking to when you go before Him in prayer! You are talking to the CREATOR of the Universe!!! Bring all your cares to Him...He can handle it! :)
“‘Ah Lord GOD! Behold, Thou hast made the heavens and the earth by Thy great power and by Thine outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for Thee’”

4. God will bring you comfort
" God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble." Psalm 46:1 " I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart ! I have overcome the world ! " John 16:33 " Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matt. 11:28 How many times have we all needed the strength of the Lord. How many times have we needed His refuge, & to rest in His arms for a while? I know I have, many many times. He has always been there too...with open arms. Lay your burdens at His feet.

3. You Are Loved!
Even when you don't feel worthy. When you don't feel lovable. The Lord still loves you! He loved you so much that He sent His only son to earth to die on a cross for your sins! Imagine that! Just ponder it for a moment! That's INCREDIBLE, selfless LOVE! John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life."

2. You can have Eternal Life!!
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Through the graciousness of God and His infinite love, God is offering the greatest gift ever eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. All we need to do is accept His free gift of Salvation! Just ask Him into your life & heart...He is waiting!

1. The Victory is already WON!
Praise GOD! Jesus was not defeated that day at Calvary! Satan had his moment of gloating only to be defeated the moment Jesus rose out of the tomb! Death was not the end. . .but only the beginning of what would be the most glorious victory for all! John 11:25 says, “. . .I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.” As believers we do not have to be afraid of death! We know we have an eternal home in Heaven with the Savior. He has gone to prepare a place for us. His promises are true and eternal. As the Apostle Paul stated, “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”

MINDFUL MONDAY

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
~ Jeremiah 29:11 ~

Hope. It's a powerful word. Some may not have any. Sad, but true. I don't think that I would've had any hope, if it were not for the Lord & the promise of the verse above. This hope has gotten me through some tough times in my life.

I accepted Christ when I was 7 yrs old at the kitchen table of my childhood home. I was blessed to have my mother be the one to lead me to Jesus. I grew up in a Christian home, went to church 3 times a week, & even graduated from a Christian school. I married my best friend & the love of my life whom I met at church. We've been married today for 19 yrs! Did I have a perfect life? Reading that, you might think so. But, no, I had trials. I had ups and downs.

One of the most difficult times in my life was going through the heartache of infertility. Do you think that a girl in her mid-twenties who has just had her 2nd miscarriage in a year due to an ectopic pregnancy and emergency surgery & is told that she most likely will not be able to conceive, has any hope?? I was scared & defeated. I felt worthless and alone. The one thing in the world that I had wanted to be since I was a kid was a mom. I felt horrible as a woman that I could not give my husband a child. It as a dark place to be. I was terribly depressed for a long time. Hope? Oh no....not much.

We went through a few infertility procedures after visiting specialists. There were glimmers of hope...only to be shattered later. We were finally told that the only 'hope' was IVF. Not only could we not afford it, but after prayer & discussion, we felt it wasn't for us. I had always had adoption in the back of my mind, but Brian wasn't on board yet. So, we did nothing. I was losing all hope of ever becoming a mommy. Then I came accross an online support group for Christian women who had infertility issues. The group was called "Waiting on God's Timing". This group of ladies were a lifeline. I was able to laugh, cry, pray with, and support them & they did the same for me! It was around that time, that someone in the group posted the verse "Jeremiah 29:11.

THERE WAS THE HOPE!!! How had I missed it?? God was always there for me. He had always had a plan, I just needed to put all of my hope & trust in Him to complete it!!

I started to pray for Brian's heart to be opened to adoption. It took about 2 years, but the Lord opened his heart....and opened it WIDE!! We began to visit agencies & get our portfolio ready. Within a few months,we had our homestudy done & were on the waiting list. A month later, we received a call about a 4 yr old little boy that needed a home. We met Dakota an instantly fell in love! His adoption was finalized later that year! The Lord had completed His plan .... or had He?

We had pretty much give up all Hope on ever having an infant. (you'd think we had learned the first time!) We live in a very tiny home...only 2 bedrooms. In order to ever adopt again, the child would have to be a boy (legally) since they would have to share a bedroom. Also, it is very rare that you get an infant through Foster Care, unless you are a foster parent (which we weren't). We did not want to go through a private agency either and spend $20 - 30k on an infant. But, through all of those obstacles......the Lord new my heart ...He new my desire.

2 yrs after adopting Dakota, we received a phone call that his birthmom had another baby. It was a BOY. The state had taken the baby. Not only was this a baby, but a boy, AND Dakota's biological brother!! Talk about a BLESSING!! We applied for our foster care license and moved Nickolas in when he was 4 months old. His adoption was finalized by the time he was 1 and a half!! I got my baby!!! I never thought that I would be a mommy. But, the Lord had a plan for me....and now I have 2 beautiful boys!!

When I look back at all of the heartache that I went through in order to get to where I am today....I see His divine hand in and through it all. He was working...He was building my faith...My HOPE in Him!!

When all looks grim. When all you can see is your circumstances & your pain. Remember....He has a plan. Not a plan to hurt you or to harm you, but A HOPE for your future!!!

THANKFUL THURSDAY

Today is "Thankful Thursday"! Today I am thankful for .....

LOVE!

Monday Brian and I celebrate 19 years of marriage! How can I put into words how very thankful I am for him & our marriage? The Lord brought me to the one man in the world that would be my very best friend, my support system, my rock and the love of my life. I am so very proud of Brian and the man that he has become over the years! He has seen so many adversities, but has always remained strong and true to himself! He is a great father to our 2 boys and they love him dearly. He is their hero.....and mine! <3 LOVE YOU B!!

Of course this weekend we celebrate the GREATEST love of all!! The Father's love. God sent his son to earth to live and then to die for us. Born to die. That's incredible love! Can you imagine? Sending your only son to his death? That's unselfish love....Redeeming Love!! Jesus was born to die on Calvary....He was wounded so that we could have LIFE! Jesus shed His blood on the cross....in that moment all sin was forgiven. All we need to do is ask. Simple? Yes. Amazing? You betcha! But, that's my Lord! That's AMAZING LOVE!!

But, wait....there's more! 'He did more?'

Oh YES!! It's why we as Christians celebrate Easter!!

'You mean it has nothing to do with eggs & candy and a little bunny hopping around?'

NOPE!! It's soooooo much more!!!

He didn't just die on the cross for our sins! That's incredible & wonderful, but it would be sad if it ended there, right? Why do we rejoice, you ask?

HE ROSE AGAIN!!!!!!

That's right!!! 3 days later....after all of the weeping & moaning, came REJOICING!! He did what no other prophet, king, or 'god' could ever do! He proved that He is the Messiah! The ONE TRUE GOD!! THE GREAT I AM!! JESUS...THE SAVIOR OF ALL! He paid the penalty for our sins and rose again so that we could live eternally with Him in Heaven one day!

Now THAT's love!

EVERLASTING LOVE....I am so thankful for it! Are you?

Word & Worship Wednesday

Good Morning! Today is Word Worship Wednesday! I think I am going to like this day! On Wednesday's I will be sharing some of my favorite scriptures & worship songs :)

This weekend we celebrate the death & resurrection of our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. I thought, in light of this, I would share a word & worship song that went along with that. I hope you enjoy!! Have a BLESSED EASTER!!

"People walked by...and shook their heads, saying, 'You said you could destroy the Temple and build it again in three days. So save yourself! Come down from that cross, if you are really the Son of God!'" Matthew 27:39-40

One would think the disciples would suspect something, but they don't. Corner them and probe their knowledge. They don't know. The only thing they know for sure is that his eyes seem more focused--he seems determined.....about what they aren't sure.

Tell them that before Friday's dawn they will abandon their only hope, and they won't believe you. Tell them that Thursday night holds betrayal and denial, and they will scoff.

"Not us," they will boast.

For them this week is like any other. The disciples give no clue.

And most importantly, Jesus gives no clue. His water doesn't become wine. His donkey doesn't speak. The dead stay in the graves and those blind on Monday are still blind on Friday.

You'd think the heavens would be opened. You'd think trumpets would be sounding. You'd think angels would be summoning all the people of the world to Jerusalem to witness the event. You'd think that God himself would descend to bless his Son.

But he doesn't. He leaves the extraordinary moment draped in the ordinary. The predictable week. A week of tasks, meals, and crying babies.

A week which may be a lot like yours. Doubtful that anything spectacular has happened in your week. No great news, no horrible news. No earthquakes. No windfalls. Just a typical week of chores and children and checkout stands.

It was for the people of Jerusalem. On the edge of history's most remarkable hour was one of history's unremarkable weeks. God is in their city and most miss him.

Jesus could have used the spectacular to get their attention. Why didn't he? Why didn't he stun them with a loop-a-dee-loop or a double back-flip off the temple? When they demanded, "Crucify him!" why didn't he make their noses grow? Why is the miraculous part of Christ quiet this week? Why doesn't he do something spectacular?

No angelic shield protected his back from the whip. No holy helmet shielded his brow from the thorny crown. God crawled neck deep into the mire of humanity, plunged into the darkest cave of death, and emerged---ALIVE!

Even when he came out, he didn't show off. He just walked out. Mary thought he was a gardener. Thomas had to have hands-on (or hands-in) proof. Jesus still ate, he still talked, he still broke bread with the Emmaus-bound disciples.

Do you see the point?

God calls us in a real world. He doesn't communicate by performing tricks. He doesn't communicate by stacking stars in the heavens or reincarnating grandparents from the grave. He's not going to speak to you through voices in a cornfield or a litte fat man in a land called Oz. There is about as much power in the plastic Jesus that's on your dashboard as there is in the Styrofoam dice on your rearview mirror.

It doesn't make a lick of difference if you are an Aquarius or a Capricorn or if you were born the day Kennedy was shot. God's not a trickster. He's not a genie. He's not a magician or a good luck charm or the man upstairs. He is, instead, the Creator of the universe who is right here in the thick of our day-to-day world who speaks to you more through cooing babies and hungry bellies than he ever will through horoscopes, zodiac papers, or weeping Madonnas.

If you get some supernatural vision or hear some strange voice in the night, don't get too carried away. It could be God or it could be indigestion, and you don't want to misinterpet one for the other.

Nor do you want to miss the impossible by looking for the incredible God speaks in our world. We just have to learn to hear him.

Listen for Him amidst the ordinary.

Need affirmation of His care? Let the daily sunrise proclaim His loyalty.

Could you use an example of His power? Spend an evening reading how your body works.

Wondering if his Word is reliable? Make a list of the fulfilled prophecies in the Bible and promises in your life.

In the final week those who demanded miracles got none and missed the one. They missed the moment in which a grave for the dead became the throne of a king.

Don't make their mistake.

I'm Baaaaack!!!

So, today I decided to start (or I guess it would be re-start!) a blog. It's just going to be a general blog to update everyone on the blessings and blunders of the Brown family as we beebopp through life! Hopefully there will be more blessings than blunders, but hey, it's the blunders that increase the faith, make you laugh, and make it all worth reading, right?? :)

I am going to going to have a theme for each day of the week. Here are the themes:

SANCTIFIED SUNDAY: I will discuss little nuggets from our Sunday Word & Worship at church!

MINDFUL MONDAY: I will share some random thoughts, quotes and inspiration. A different topic each week.

TUESDAY'S TOP TEN: I will share a different list of my top tens each week!

WORD AND WORSHIP WEDNESDAY: I will share my favorite scripture &/or worship music for the week, hoping to encourage & lighten your load!

THANKFUL THURSDAY: Gratitude creates it’s own attitude. It can give you a new perspective, a new focus. I am going to use this day as my opportunity to see those things. Please join me.

FAMILY OF FOUR FRIDAY: Updates on the Brown family of four!

SATURDAY SMILE: It may be a post about things that made me smile throughout the week, something I did to make someone else smile, or a joke, video, photo or post that I think will make YOU smile. As long as it relates to smiling, it qualifies for Saturday Smile!
