Love. It's a powerful word. 'I love you' is a phrase that most people love to hear. I know it sure brought a smile (and a happy tear) to my face when my 2 year old, Nickolas, said it for the first time today! They are precious words.
Sometimes we don't say them enough. We assume others know how we feel. Actions show love, sure, but hearing those words....it's just a joyful feeling. It got me thinking today. Does Jesus know how we feel? Do we tell Him enough? Does He know you love Him?
Now, I know, I know what you are thinking. Jesus is all-knowing. He already knows my heart. But, wouldn't He smile & be filled with joy if we TOLD Him. If we said it out loud? "Jesus, I love you!!" I can see the smile already forming on His magnificent face!
I am reminded of a passage of scripture. In John 21, the disciples were out fishing & afterward went back to shore to eat & fellowship with Jesus. After they were done eating, Jesus said to Peter 'Do you love me?'. Peter's reply was 'Yes, Lord. You know that I do'. Jesus said to him 'Feed my Lambs'. He then asked Peter a 2nd time 'Peter, do you love me?'. Peter replied 'Yes, Lord, you know that I love you'. Jesus said 'take care of my sheep'. Then a 3rd time Jesus asked him 'Do you love me?' & Peter replied 'Lord, you know all things. You know that I love You.'. Jesus told Him "Feed my Sheep".
Jesus wanted Peter to show evidence of His love for Him. We can show our love for the Lord in so many ways! What did Jesus mean when he told Peter to 'feed his sheep' or 'take care of his sheep'? He wanted Peter to go out and make a difference! Go and tell people about Jesus! Go and help the lonely, widowed, and broken-hearted! Those are the same things that we can do today. We can show the Lord how much we love Him by serving Him! By using our talents for His Glory! By reaching out to the single mom who is struggling to feed her children. By taking in an orphan. By helping out our elderly neighbor with their lawn. There are so many ways to SHOW the Lord that we love Him.
But...
Why not just TELL HIM! Tell the Lord how much you love Him! Cry out to Him and tell Him how thankful you are for what He has done in your life. The joy that I felt today when my little 2 yr old uttered those words, is probably nothing compared to how the Lord must feel when one of his creation...one of his children, says "I LOVE YOU FATHER" "I LOVE YOU LORD".
So, tell Him today. Our actions are wonderful & great...but I bet He'd LOVE to hear the words! :)
