My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me (Psalm 63:8, NIV)
We have lots going on right now in the Brown family. A source of anxiety, tension, fear...yes, and doubt. It seems like a daily battle of the mind and soul. The Lord is in control, right? I keep telling myself that....but, what if this happens...or this is the result? What then Lord?
Doubt. It's a human response to what seems like an impossible circumstance. It can plague even the most faithful of Christians. I was reminded recently, however, of the old testament story of Zechariah.
The father of John the Baptist, and husband of Elizabeth. He was a priest belonging to the order of Abijah. While he was offering incense in the Temple, the angel Gabriel appeared to him, and told him that his wife Elizabeth who had been barren for many years would give birth to a son, and the son's name would be John. Zechariah, who was an old man, did not believe the angel, and because of his disbelief, was struck dumb unable to speak, until the prophecy was fulfilled.
Imagine? God silenced Zechariah because he was speaking unbelief! How often do we do that? Not just audibly, but in our hearts. We ask the Lord for things...but are we believing that He will fulfill His promises?
Is He really Our Healer? Yes! Psalm 103:1-3, 1 Peter 2:24, Matthew 8:16-17 all tell us that HE IS!
Will He bring us peace in the midst of a storm? YES! Phillipians 4:6-7 tells us that when we come to Him and make our petitions known, He will bring us peace!
Can we trust Him? YES! Matthew 17:20 tells us that even if we have faith as small as a mustard seed, NOTHING is impossible with Him!
My favorite scripture to quote out loud when I am fearful.... 2 Timothy 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
When doubt, fear, anxiety creep in & when our circumstances are telling us that there is no hope; instead of speaking fear and doubt, let's start speaking God's TRUTH! Start quoting out loud His promises! He IS Faithful. He IS our Healer! He DOES comfort! He IS in control!! I don't want to be silent in my fear and doubt....instead, I want to PROCLAIM all that He IS and all that HE HAS ALREADY DONE! It builds our faith....makes us stronger in Him. He rejoices!
Remember as you face your day today, no matter your circumstances, He is holding you in the palm of His hand. I can't imagine a safer, stronger, more peaceful place to be.
